This project primarily aims to document the Konkani language spoken by the GSB community in and around Mangalore, Karnataka, India. An online GSB konkani dictionary has been introduced, which is mainly dependent on users contributions. In the future other languages apart from Konkani that need documentation will be supported too. This site's intention is to act as a means to document the konkani language. We started off with the dictionary as it is a basic necessity of any language. It was felt necessary to document the original konkani, before the words were lost for ever. This site aims to achieve 10,000 konkani words in the dictionary by 2008. Please feel free to contribute konkani words to the dictionary. The language will be based on the devanagari script. The devanagari script is also used by Sanskrit, the mother of all languages. Konkani as a language originally branched out of Sanskrit. |
